Modernisation of Operating Theatres at Örnsköldsvik Hospital
After several years of planning and three years of construction, the renovation of the operating department at Örnsköldsvik Hospital is now in its final phase. A total of six operating theatres have been upgraded. Three of these were put into use during the autumn of 2024, while the remaining ones are scheduled to open in the spring of 2025. The work has been carried out in stages, allowing the department to remain operational throughout the reconstruction process.
The need for the upgrade has been driven by the specific requirements of surgical procedures such as ear surgeries, prosthesis and implant surgeries, and general surgery. In these contexts, a controlled surgical environment is particularly important to reduce the risk of contamination.
One of the choices made during the renovation was the implementation of Temperature-controlled AirFlow system – TcAF, Opragon. This system has proven to be more energy-efficient compared to traditional solutions and is designed to meet clean air environment requirements throughout the entire operating room.

During installation – Opragon requires approximately 30 cm of space above the ceiling to fit.
The renovation also aimed to adapt the facilities for improved workflow. The design of the operating theatres has been tailored to meet standardized requirements for work environment, hygiene, and logistics. The project has been extensive and meticulously planned to deliver functional facilities in accordance with current guidelines for healthcare environments.
