A Ceiling-Mounted, Controlled Airflow Solution

Opragon In-a-Box is mounted in the ceiling and delivers a controlled, temperature-controlled vertical airflow directly over the critical operating area.

This means:

• No loss of floor space
• No interference with workflow
• Controlled downward airflow powered by gravity
• An ultra-clean zone where it matters most (<10 cfu/m³), validated in real use and with CFD simulations

When upgrading an existing room, the safest solution is not the one that moves air around, but the one that controls it.

Limitations of Floor-Standing Air Handling Units

In retrofit situations, floor-standing recirculating units are sometimes considered a quick fix. However, they come with some limitations:

• They occupy valuable floor space in already compact surgical rooms
• They can obstruct staff movement and equipment placement
• Air is discharged upwards or even horizontally, potentially dispersing contaminants across the room
• They do not create a controlled, protected ultra-clean zone over the surgical field

Because these units intentionally mix the air in many directions across the room rather than establishing a defined ultra-clean zone from above, they may increase turbulence instead of reducing it.

Installation – From Decision to Operation

Simple 3-Step Installation

Opragon In-a-Box is engineered for fast, flexible installation without requiring a complete overhaul of the building’s ventilation system.

Installation in three steps:

1. Secure the unit to the ceiling
2. Connect to facility cooling (or optional external cooling unit)
3. Connect to power
4. Close the false ceiling (if any)

The system operates independently and does not require resizing or rebuilding the entire HVAC infrastructure. Integration with various ceiling types is possible (modular panels, steel, etc). Climate control in the room must be handled by separate and often already existing ventilation systems. For the highest levels of cleanliness existing room ventilation should be HEPA-filtered.

All components except the control screen and temperature sensor are integrated into one ceiling-mounted unit. This simplifies planning, reduces project risk, and shortens implementation timelines. Maintenance is small and done either in-place or at a lowered position. The optional external water cooler, water connection pipes, electrical cables and drain hose are to be connected to the Opragon In-A-Box but are not included in the delivery.
