Celebrating a Milestone: 100 Opragon Installations in Dutch Operating Rooms
We are thrilled to announce a significant achievement in our mission to enhance surgical environments: the successful installation of the 100th Opragon system at Noordwest Ziekenhuisgroep (NWZ Hospital), Alkmaar in the Netherlands. This milestone underscores our commitment to providing ultra-clean, energy-efficient ventilation solutions to healthcare facilities across the country.
“At Noordwest, we’re proud of the results achieved with our new operating rooms. These modern ORs reflect today’s standards in technology, efficiency, and sustainability. The energy-efficient air system plays a key role in controlling contamination risks, while natural daylight and carefully selected equipment create a pleasant and safe working environment. Our staff has been closely involved throughout the process and looks forward to working in this state-of-the-art OR complex.”
Peter Geerlings, Project Director, Redevelopment Noordwest Ziekenhuisgroep

A Decade of Excellence
Our journey began nearly a decade ago with the first Opragon installation at a prominent hospital in Utrecht. Since then, the adoption of Opragon systems has accelerated, with over 70 installations in the past five years alone. This rapid growth reflects the trust and confidence that Dutch hospitals and clinics have placed in our innovative technology.

The Opragon Advantage
The Opragon system utilizes Temperature-controlled AirFlow (TcAF) technology, which introduces slightly cooled, HEPA-filtered air into the center of the operating room. This design effectively reduces airborne contaminants, thereby minimizing the risk of surgical site infections. Notably, the Opragon system achieves these ultra-clean conditions while consuming up to 30% less energy than traditional laminar airflow systems, aligning with the sustainability goals of modern healthcare facilities.
Collaborative Success
This accomplishment would not have been possible without the exceptional collaboration with our Dutch partner, Medexs. Their expertise in hospital construction and dedication to quality have been instrumental in designing and implementing state-of-the-art operating rooms that prioritize both patient safety and staff comfort.
“At NWZ Alkmaar, we’ve replaced seven state-of-the-art operating rooms on the second floor of the hospital, including one hybrid OR and one large OR. The hybrid OR is equipped with an Opragon 21 system, while the remaining ORs feature the Opragon 8 system. These installations ensure optimal air quality and energy efficiency — a significant step toward future-proof surgical environments. The close collaboration between Medexs and Avidicare was key to the success of this project. By combining our expertise in OR construction with Avidicare’s innovative ventilation technology, we’ve created a safe and sustainable environment for both patients and staff.”

Looking Ahead
As we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on our mission to advance healthcare environments. We look forward to continuing our partnerships and bringing the benefits of Opragon’s ultra-clean, energy-efficient ventilation solutions to more facilities, both in the Netherlands and around the world.
Together, we are making strides toward safer, more sustainable surgical care.
