Opragon on "Swedish BBC"

The hospital in Helsingborg, Sweden, has been working with Lund University in a research study comparing different OR ventilation concepts. They have measured cleanliness, working conditions and energy use. As also reported in scientific journals, Opragon shows that it really delivers on all these three areas. Have a look at the recent broadcast from Sweden (in Swedish, on-line one year).

New scientific evidence for Opragon

New scientific evidence for Opragon

The respected “Journal of Hospital Infection” just published an article comparing the Opragon system to traditional OR ventilation systems. Researchers confirmed that Opragon maintains ultra-clean conditions in the whole OR using less energy and with better working conditions than Laminar Airflow Systems, while also using 28% less energy. Mixed ventilation was not able to create ultra-clean conditions. Read the paper here. (Open access will be available in November.)

The Journal of Hospital Infection is the editorially independent scientific publication of the Healthcare Infection Society. The aim of the Journal is to publish high quality research and information relating to infection prevention and control that is relevant to an international audience.

The fifth edition of KlinerigieMagazin from Viamedica Stiftung is now available for download.

This year’s edition is focused on environmental certifications in hospitals. The articles are a guide for future development in other hospitals.

Please see the article on page 26 regarding the Opragon system by Avidicare “OP-Lüftungssystem für hochreine Luft als Energiekostensparer“ (in German). It explains how Opragon keeps your entire OR ultra-clean using about 30% less energy than traditional LAF solutions.

World is running out of antibiotics

World is running out of antibiotics

Antibiotic-resistant superbugs are on the rise, and the World Health Organization issued a warning of the lack of new antibiotics under development while the threat of antimicrobial resistance grows.

"Antimicrobial resistance is a global health emergency that will seriously jeopardize progress in modern medicine," says Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of WHO. He continues to say "There is an urgent need for more investment [...], otherwise we will be forced back to a time when people feared common infections and risked their lives from minor surgery."

According to a new report published by the Swedish Energy Agency, the Opragon operating room ventilation has the best hygiene index. This means that is uses the least amount of energy to maintain ultra-low levels of bacteria in the room, compared to traditional laminar air flow systems as well as mixing systems. Of course, using less energy means spending less money as well as taking care of our nature! The report is available for download at the agency’s home page (Swedish and English), or contact Avidicare for your own copy.

Antibiotic resistance scares mighty G20 countries

Antibiotic resistance scares mighty G20 countries

The powerful G20 countries for the first time ever gathered their ministers of health last week. Representing two thirds of the world’s population and 85% of the global economy, the ministers agreed to develop national action plans to stop antibiotic resistance. The meeting was initiated by Germany and global health is from now on a constant on the G20 agenda.

"Antibiotics are one of the most important achievements of modern medicine in the fight against infectious diseases and when it comes to safeguarding surgical procedures. Our ability to fight bacterial infections is, however, increasingly being placed in jeopardy or even becoming impossible due to the global rise in especially dangerous pathogens. If we do not act now, together and across the world, we are heading for a post-antibiotic era. And that will have dramatic consequences for us all." [German Federal Health Minister Hermann Gröhe]
